Encouraging
and Equipping Dancers for Ministry
Members of your church with gifts in music or drama can serve
by participating in the choir or drama ministry. In the same
manner, those with dance gifting can serve the Lord with dance.
Church leaders often share this goal, but our Churches are
sometimes in need of leadership regarding how to use dance
purposefully in worship, teaching and outreach. One of Marlene's
passions is to spend a half day, full day or weekend with
those who desire to grow in this pursuit. Most often, but
not always, participants tend to be teens, young adults, or
children who have had dance training or an ongoing interest
in dance. Under the authority of your church leadership, Marlene
can teach your group one or more dance pieces to be shared
in the worship service at the culmination of the weekend.
A study of the Biblical basis for dance, strategies to help
insure a successful introduction of dance to your congregation
- including costume and selection -and vision casting for
ongoing dance ministry and are also covered in the workshop.
Dance
Ministry Development
This workshop can be used as a follow-up to the first workshop,
or for churches with more advanced dancers, or with existing
dance ministries seeking to grow in this expression. The goal
is to take your dance ministry to the next level, so workshop
content will be tailored to meet your needs. The focus of
the workshop can include teaching new pieces choreographed
specifically for your dancers and congregation, dance technique
classes, training in how to develop choreography, and dance
ministry leadership development. Half day, full day, or weekend
options available.
Production
Choreography
If you desire to use movement and dance more purposefully
in your next choir, youth or children's outreach production,
Marlene is available to choreograph or stage the major musical
numbers in your production. Generally, Marlene prepares the
choreography in advance with the phone/email guidance of the
production Director and/or Musical Director. Special attention
is given to how the movement will serve the production, the
skills of the cast, logistics of the venue, and the sensibilities
of the audience regarding theater and dance. The movement
is designed to be taught to the cast in a weekend retreat
setting and videotaped for review. Ideally, a Dance Captain
is identified to see the performance through.
