Moving People in Churches
mov·ing
[moo-ving] - changing the position or posture of; taking or
causing to take action; prompting; stirring the emotions

Marlene
Dickinson knows that dance has the power to move people. Maybe
that's why we find multiple accounts of dance throughout the
Bible. Dance, like all art, is one of God's gifts to us. When
used as The Creator intended, art communicates truth. The
contemporary Church has become quite resourceful at "telling"
the truth through music and the spoken word; dance is about
"showing" the truth. This adds a whole new language
to our communication tool box - a universal language spoken
the world over. In a single movement dance can communicate
worship, submission, regret, joy, bondage, loneliness, reconciliation
- an endless range of dynamics as we relate to God and one
another. Whether it's a Bible story understood anew through
movement and dance, a joyful expression of Christ's love celebrated
in community, an illustration of scripture seen through new
eyes, or a single dancer's sacrifice of praise to the Lord,
dance creates imagery - imagery that moves us to be more like
Christ.
