Production Choreography

"Characters speak until they must sing and sing until they must dance."
Marlene believes that this profound theater adage must be the driving principle of production choreography. Allow her to infuse your show with dance that is passionate and purposeful. Whether it be to highlight plot points, allude to subtext, or foreshadow upcoming action, her thoughtful choreography is designed to engage your audience on a level beyond that of music and dialogue. Typically, Marlene teaches three or four primary production numbers of your choosing over a two or three day weekend cast dance retreat. With a careful eye toward the vision of the Director, the strengths of the cast, and the ambience of the performance space, Marlene desires to develop strategic dance and/or staging that serves your play and moves your audience.

Musical Theater Dance Repertoire for Singers and Actors*

Invite Marlene for a Master Class to further the experience and training of your singers and actors in musical theater dance repertoire. By learning a variety of dance excerpts from standard musicals, your students will gain familiarity with various dance styles and the basic techniques required to make each style a viable expression.

*Can also be targeted to challenge those with formal dance training and/or those who consider dance their first discipline.

The Dance Audition - Surviving and Thriving as a Singer/Actor

This workshop is designed to help your singers and actors prepare for the dance call portion of the audition. Marlene desires to build confidence in your students by helping them discover their innate ability to communicate through movement and dance, regardless of their technical ability. Students will add to their tool box a deeper awareness of their continence when dancing and how to focus physical energy to serve the piece as well as explore the power of the eyes, hands, arms, and the value of resistance and contrary movement. Topics will also include dance audition preparation, how to dress, logistics of the process, and dance audition do's and don'ts.

Dance Technique for Singers and Actors*

Marlene offers this basic dance technique class for those who have not had an opportunity for extensive formal dance study. Students will be dancing while comparing and contrasting the basic principles of Ballet, Modern, Lyrical, Jazz, Tap, and Hip Hop. Students will leave with a working brain and body knowledge of each style. Workshop can also be designed to emphasize one or two particular styles of your choice.

* Can be targeted to those with extensive dance training and experience.
