Production
Choreography
"Characters
speak until they must sing and sing until they must dance."
Marlene believes that this profound theater adage must be
the driving principle of production choreography. Allow her
to infuse your show with dance that is passionate and purposeful.
Whether it be to highlight plot
points, allude to subtext, or foreshadow upcoming action,
her thoughtful choreography is designed to engage your audience
on a level beyond that of music and dialogue. Typically, Marlene
teaches three or four primary production numbers of your choosing
over a two or three day weekend cast dance retreat. With a
careful eye toward the vision of the Director, the strengths
of the cast, and the ambience of the performance space, Marlene
desires to develop strategic dance and/or staging that serves
your play and moves your audience.

The Dance Audition
- Surviving and Thriving as a Singer/Actor
This workshop
is designed to help your singers and actors prepare for the
dance call portion of the audition. Marlene desires to build
confidence in your students by helping them discover their
innate ability to communicate through movement and dance,
regardless of their technical ability. Students will add to
their tool box a deeper awareness of their continence when
dancing and how to focus physical energy to serve the piece
as well as explore the power of the eyes, hands, arms, and
the value of resistance and contrary movement. Topics will
also include dance audition preparation, how to dress, logistics
of the process, and dance audition do's and don'ts.

Hop. Students will leave with a working brain and body knowledge
of each style. Workshop can also be designed to emphasize
one or two particular styles of your choice.
* Can
